Default Pinokio Speed

All,

Am considering picking one of these up.

Can anyone with direct experience talk about their pros and, especially, their cons?

Can they feed paint while laid over sideways, parallel to the ground? Sometimes the situation calls for a shot from a funky position, and if there is no real ball stack per se, this could be an issue.

Have heard they don't like to feed while shooting upwards, that they popcorn a lot on the last several balls, that their lids can be fragile, that they can drain batteries, and that they can allow paint into the seams.

I'm coming from the Rotor, and while it is as tough as nails, great on batteries, and feeds fast, am getting a little annoyed by it. Turn it up and it feeds great, but is harsh on fragile paint. Turn it down and it's gentle as a kitten but jams many times per game, or with small paint, whichever comes most often.

Also it's heavy and noisy when running low.

Thanks very kindly!

Interesting.

I've heard mixed reviews of the Spire, as well. The III is a bit rich for my blood, so that leaves the first gen, which seem to have issues with the back strap cracking, the rear polycarbonate section cracking, and wear on the feed cone paddles.

You've never had any such issues?

The Spire looks great, and the Speed is sinfully ugly, but in terms of raw performance, there doesn't seem to be that big a separation between the two. And the Speed is a decent amount lighter.

Hmm. . . . .

Virtue replaced my back strap with an updated one. I bought a second v1 when they were blowing them out for $90.

I prefer the operation of the Z2, but hate the shells and the loader capacity.

How has the updated strap done for you?

And how is it where really fast-feeding needs are concerned?

On the Speed side of things, sure wish Dirge would show up. He's rocked one for a while now and it would be interesting to get his long-term use thoughts.

I am here. Been at a garbage burner for a few weeks.

I find it to be very good. Never jams. Like it better than the spire.

And back to work.....

You have outshot the Speed?

Under what circumstances?

I've done quite a bit of digging since last post and have collected timed drop tests and have to say that the Speed is insanely fast for what it is.

My rotor, with tension set at flush, drops at an average of 33 bps.

The Speed drops at an average of 24 bps.

i use both speed and spire 2/3. speed is basically a suped up revy. it's not "force" fed but it will easily keep up to at least 12 bps. I don't shoot faster than that so not sure how it keeps up beyond that.

the tabs on the battery lid are fragile, had to replace the lid a couple of times. and I've had the sensor tongue thing crap out on me but 10 bucks to replace it if I recall correctly.

oh, couple more things. it doesn't hold a lot. I use virture pods (165). I have to completely empty it out to fill it, otherwise I just lose paint. and if you tilt it up too much, not everything in the hopper will feed. cleaning is a bitch as well.

the pluses, it's super light and it clears some of your vision since all the moving parts are in front of the neck.
