Default valve issues

just got a new valve. have some problems. i hear a leak down the barrel. weird thing is if i stick my finger in and push the bolt back the leak stops. i don't think it's a spring issue since i tried a couple and same thing happens. should i start messing around with spacers?

i got the leak to stop by taking all the shims out of the power tube. is that ok to do? it seems like it's cycling fine.

If it works reliably, problem solved.
